THE OTHER EUROPE

Romania’s Art Nouveau & Belle Époque Journey

THE OTHER EUROPE

The Journey

Romania is famous for medieval castles, mysterious legends and the dramatic landscapes of Transylvania.

But there is another Romania.

A sophisticated, cosmopolitan Romania shaped by the Belle Époque, the Austro-Hungarian world and centuries of cultural exchange between Romanians, Hungarians, Germans, Jews and Serbs.

The Other Europe takes travelers beyond the Romania they expect to find.

From Bucharest’s elegant boulevards and the colorful squares of Timișoara to historic vineyards and the extraordinary Art Nouveau palaces of Oradea, this journey reveals a country of architecture, café culture, wine, gastronomy and remarkable stories.

It is not a journey built around ticking famous landmarks off a list.

It is about discovering a Romania few international travelers know exists.

DAY 1 — BUCHAREST

Welcome to Romania

Arrival at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport.

Meet your local representative and transfer to your centrally located hotel.

After time to settle in, meet your guide and fellow travelers for a welcome drink and dinner.

Over dinner, we introduce the story behind our journey: Romania as a meeting point between Eastern, Western and Central Europe, and the remarkable transformation of its cities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Overnight: Bucharest

Meals: Welcome Dinner

DAY 2 — BUCHAREST

The Little Paris & Romania’s Belle Époque

Today we discover the elegant face of Romania’s capital.

Our exploration follows Calea Victoriei, once the fashionable promenade of Bucharest’s aristocracy, past historic hotels, palaces and some of the city's finest architecture.

We discover the Romanian Athenaeum, Revolution Square, the former Royal Palace and the streets that earned Bucharest its famous nickname — “Little Paris.”

But this is not simply an architectural tour.

Through stories of aristocrats, artists, merchants and architects, we discover a city fascinated by Paris and Western Europe, yet unmistakably Romanian.

There will be time during the afternoon to enjoy Bucharest independently — perhaps over coffee in one of its historic neighborhoods.

In the evening, we meet again for dinner and an introduction to contemporary Romanian cuisine.

Overnight: Bucharest

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Signature Experience: Belle Époque Bucharest walking experience

DAY 3 — BUCHAREST → TIMIȘOARA

Welcome to Central European Romania

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a short domestic flight to Timișoara, avoiding a long day on the road and giving us more time to experience the city.

Welcome to a different Romania.

For centuries, Timișoara developed at the crossroads of cultures, influenced by Romanian, German, Hungarian, Serbian and Jewish communities.

We begin in beautiful Union Square before continuing through Liberty Square and Victory Square, discovering Baroque buildings, Secession palaces, churches and elegant public spaces.

Along the way, we hear the stories behind Timișoara's multicultural identity and its important place in modern European history, including the events of December 1989.

Tonight, dinner introduces the cuisine of Banat — a delicious reflection of the region's multicultural heritage.

Overnight: Timișoara

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Signature Experience: Multicultural Banat dinner

DAY 4 — TIMIȘOARA

Palaces, Markets & Local Life

Today we slow down and experience Timișoara rather than simply visit it.

Together with a specialist local guide, we explore the Cetate and Fabric districts, discovering spectacular Secession façades, hidden courtyards and the stories of the architects, merchants and families who shaped the city.

We then enter the world of everyday Timișoara with a visit to a local market.

Taste regional products while discovering how Romanian, Swabian, Hungarian and Serbian culinary traditions have influenced one another.

After lunch, the afternoon is yours.

Explore independently, enjoy the city's café culture, visit a gallery or simply sit in one of Timișoara's beautiful squares and watch the city go by.

Depending on the departure date, the program may include a specially selected cultural encounter — an architectural visit, gallery, concert or meeting with a local creative.

The evening is free.

Overnight: Timișoara

Meals: Breakfast, Tastings

Signature Experience: Architecture and local-life experience with a specialist guide

DAY 5 — TIMIȘOARA → ARAD → MINIȘ WINE COUNTRY → ORADEA

From Palaces to Vineyards

After breakfast, we travel north toward Arad.

Often overlooked by international visitors, Arad rewards the curious traveler with elegant boulevards, monumental architecture and another fascinating chapter of Romania's Central European history.

After exploring its historic center, we leave the city behind and enter the vineyards of Miniș-Măderat.

Here the rhythm of the journey changes.

At a carefully selected winery, meet the people behind the wines and discover the character of western Romania through a private tasting.

A relaxed winery lunch pairs regional dishes with local wines.

There is no rush this afternoon — time to enjoy the landscape, wine and conversation before continuing toward Oradea.

Arrival and check-in.

Overnight: Oradea

Meals: Breakfast, Winery Lunch

Signature Experience: Private Romanian wine tasting and vineyard lunch

DAY 6 — ORADEA

Romania’s Art Nouveau Revelation

For many travelers, today may be the greatest surprise of the entire journey.

Welcome to Oradea.

At the beginning of the 20th century, visionary architects transformed the city into an extraordinary showcase of Secession and Art Nouveau architecture.

Our guided walk takes us through Union Square and along Republicii Avenue, revealing an exceptional collection of restored palaces, decorative façades, stained glass and hidden architectural details.

Among them stands the spectacular Black Eagle Palace, one of Oradea's great architectural symbols.

Yet the buildings are only part of the story.

We discover the architects, entrepreneurs and multicultural communities that created this remarkable urban world.

After lunch, enjoy time to explore independently, photograph the architecture or experience the city's café culture.

As evening falls, we meet for a drink followed by dinner in an atmospheric historic setting.

Overnight: Oradea

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Signature Experience: Private Art Nouveau architecture walk

DAY 7 — ORADEA & BĂILE FELIX

From Architecture to Thermal Waters

Our final full day combines discovery with relaxation.

The morning offers time for a deeper exploration of Oradea — interiors, stories and architectural details easily missed during a conventional city tour.

After lunch, we travel the short distance to Băile Felix.

Romania's thermal-water tradition provides the perfect ending to our journey.

The afternoon is yours to relax in naturally heated thermal waters and enjoy the spa facilities.

No monuments to tick off. No long drive ahead.

Simply time to relax.

In the evening, we return to Oradea for our farewell dinner.

Over a final glass of Romanian wine, we look back on a journey through a Romania very different from the country of castles and legends many travelers imagined before arriving.

Overnight: Oradea

Meals: Breakfast, Farewell Dinner

Signature Experience: Thermal spa afternoon

DAY 8 — FAREWELL ROMANIA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Private transfer for onward travel according to the group's flight arrangements.

Guests leave Romania having discovered something unexpected: a sophisticated Central European world of architecture, cultures, food, wine and stories hidden in plain sight.

Meals: Breakfast
