WILD AND SACRED ROMANIA

A Journey Through Bucovina, Ancient Forests & Living Traditions

WILD AND SACRED ROMANIA

THE JOURNEY

There are places in Europe where traditions are preserved for visitors.

And there are places where they are still part of everyday life.

Northern Romania is one of them.

Hidden between the Carpathian Mountains and the rolling hills of Bucovina lies a world of painted monasteries, ancient forests, wooden houses, traditional crafts, family kitchens and villages where the rhythm of life still follows the seasons.

Wild & Sacred Romania is not simply a sightseeing tour.

It is an invitation to enter this world.

Meet the people who keep centuries-old traditions alive. Taste food prepared from family recipes. Walk through forests and villages. Discover extraordinary painted churches. Travel through mountain landscapes and experience Romanian hospitality around the table.

This is Romania beyond Dracula.

A journey into the country's living soul.

DAY 1 — BUCHAREST

Welcome to Romania

Arrival at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport.

Meet your local representative and transfer to your centrally located hotel.

After time to settle in, meet your guide and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner.

Tonight we introduce the Romania we are about to discover — a country shaped not only by kings and cities, but by mountains, monasteries, villages and communities that have preserved traditions for generations.

Overnight: Bucharest

Meals: Welcome Dinner

DAY 2 — BUCHAREST → NEAMȚ

Leaving the City Behind

After breakfast we leave Bucharest and travel north.

Gradually, the landscape changes.

Cities give way to farmland, hills and the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians.

Our destination is the historic region of Neamț, gateway to Moldavia and Bucovina.

Along the way we stop for a traditional lunch and begin discovering the cuisine of eastern Romania.

Later we explore the surroundings of Neamț and hear the stories of a region where spirituality and rural life have been closely connected for centuries.

Dinner features regional specialties.

Overnight: Neamț area

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 3 — NEAMȚ → BUCOVINA

Entering the Painted World

Today we enter Bucovina.

Rolling green hills, forests, traditional villages and church towers begin to dominate the landscape.

Our first encounters with the famous painted monasteries reveal something extraordinary.

Centuries ago, entire biblical stories were painted across exterior walls, creating monumental visual narratives that could be understood by communities long before books were widely available.

But we deliberately avoid turning the day into a marathon of churches.

Between visits, we stop in villages, meet local people and discover the landscape that gave birth to this remarkable culture.

In the afternoon we arrive at our countryside accommodation.

Dinner is prepared using regional ingredients and traditional recipes.

Overnight: Bucovina

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Signature Experience: First encounter with Bucovina's painted monasteries

DAY 4 — BUCOVINA

Painted Monasteries & Living Traditions

Today belongs to the icons of Bucovina.

We visit some of the region's most remarkable painted monasteries, including Voroneț and Moldovița, discovering the symbolism, colors and stories covering their walls.

Voroneț became famous for the extraordinary blue used in its frescoes and for its monumental depiction of the Last Judgment.

Yet our journey goes beyond monuments.

We meet a local artisan and discover a traditional craft still practiced in the region.

Depending on the season and availability, this may involve painted eggs, wood carving, weaving or traditional decorative arts.

Rather than simply watching, guests are invited to try the craft themselves.

Lunch introduces more of Bucovina's generous cuisine.

Later, we return through the countryside with time to enjoy the landscape.

Overnight: Bucovina

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Signature Experience: Private encounter and workshop with a local artisan

DAY 5 — BUCOVINA

Forests, Villages & The Romanian Table

Today there is no checklist.

We enter rural Bucovina.

A gentle walk takes us through countryside shaped by forests, hayfields and small farms.

We meet local families and learn about a way of life closely connected to the land and seasons.

Then comes one of the most important experiences of the journey:

lunch in a local home.

Around the family table, food becomes our introduction to Romanian hospitality.

Homemade soups, regional dishes, preserves, cheeses, bread, cakes and perhaps a glass of homemade fruit brandy tell their own story about the region.

The afternoon continues at a relaxed pace.

Depending on season and group profile, the experience may include a forest walk, cheese tasting, farm visit or horse-drawn carriage ride.

Return to our accommodation in the late afternoon.

Overnight: Bucovina

Meals: Breakfast, Home-hosted Lunch

Signature Experience: Lunch with a local family

DAY 6 — MOLDOVIȚA → VATRA DORNEI

The Carpathian Journey

This morning we experience one of Romania's most atmospheric forms of travel.

We board a historic narrow-gauge railway — the famous Mocănița — for a journey through the landscapes of Bucovina.

The little train carries us slowly through valleys, forests and villages.

There is no need to hurry.

That is precisely the point.

After the railway experience, we continue toward Vatra Dornei through beautiful mountain scenery.

The afternoon offers time for a gentle walk, relaxation or simply enjoying the Carpathian surroundings.

Dinner highlights mountain cuisine and regional ingredients.

Overnight: Vatra Dornei

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Signature Experience: Bucovina narrow-gauge railway journey

DAY 7 — VATRA DORNEI → TRANSYLVANIA

Across the Carpathians

Today we cross the Carpathians.

The road itself becomes part of the experience as we travel through mountain passes and dramatic landscapes connecting Bucovina with Transylvania.

We stop along the way for viewpoints, villages and a relaxed regional lunch.

Rather than rushing toward the famous tourist triangle of Bran–Brașov–Sighișoara, we experience a quieter side of Transylvania.

Our final accommodation is chosen for atmosphere: a restored historic property, manor house or countryside guesthouse rather than a conventional city hotel.

Tonight we gather for our farewell dinner.

Romanian wine is served as we celebrate a journey through landscapes, traditions and encounters that cannot be experienced from the window of a tour bus.

Overnight: Transylvania

Meals: Breakfast, Farewell Dinner

Signature Experience: Carpathian crossing and countryside stay

DAY 8 — TRANSYLVANIA → BUCHAREST

Farewell Romania

After breakfast we begin our journey toward Bucharest and Henri Coandă International Airport.

Depending on flight schedules, additional stops can be incorporated along the route.

Our journey ends where it began.

But the Romania our guests take home with them is very different from the Romania they imagined before arriving.

Not simply castles and legends.

A country of forests and mountains, extraordinary sacred art, generous tables, ancient skills and people keeping traditions alive.

Meals: Breakfast

THE DIFFERENCE

This is not a tour about Romanian traditions.

It is a journey inside them.

Guests don't simply photograph a village.

They enter a home.

They don't simply see traditional crafts.

They meet the people keeping them alive.

They don't simply taste Romanian food.

They share it around a Romanian table.

And between these encounters lie painted monasteries, forests, mountains and some of the most beautiful rural landscapes in Eastern Europe.

Wild & Sacred Romania is designed around one simple idea:

Don't just see Romania. Meet it.
