The Romania You Haven’t Seen Yet – 13-Day Tour
Romania Revealed
The Journey
You may already know Romania for Dracula, Bran Castle, Peleș, medieval Sighișoara and the grand squares of Sibiu.
But there is another Romania.
A country of old watermills still turning beside mountain streams, Czech villages hidden in the hills above the Danube, ancient stone churches, tiny mountain communities, local kitchens and landscapes that can change completely in the space of a few hours.
Romania Revealed is designed for travelers who have visited Romania before — and for first-time visitors who want to look beyond its classic tourist attractions.
This is a journey into the surprising, authentic and little-known Romania: the country of the Danube and Banat, Hațeg and the Apuseni Mountains, rural Transylvania and multicultural communities whose stories rarely make it into conventional itineraries.
And you don't have to sacrifice comfort to discover it.
Travel by private air-conditioned coach and stay in carefully selected 4-star hotels, with daily breakfast and dinner included. The itinerary combines multi-night hotel bases with an unhurried pace, allowing you to venture into the countryside by day and return to comfort each evening.
This is the Romania most visitors never see.
Day 1 | Welcome to Bucharest
Arrive in Bucharest and meet your English-speaking tour director before transferring to your 4-star hotel.
Tonight's welcome dinner introduces the journey ahead — one that will gradually leave the familiar Romania behind.

Day 2 | Bucharest Beyond the Postcards
Discover a capital of remarkable contrasts.
Royal Bucharest, elegant nineteenth-century architecture, the monumental legacy of the Communist period and today's creative city coexist within a few streets of one another.
Rather than attempting to see every landmark, today gives you the historical context to understand the country you are about to cross — with time left to enjoy Bucharest rather than simply tour it.

Day 3 | Across Oltenia to Băile Herculane
Leave the familiar tourist routes behind and travel west through Oltenia towards the mountains of Banat.
By evening, arrive in Băile Herculane, one of Europe's historic spa towns and your comfortable base for exploring one of Romania's most fascinating regions.
The scenery has changed.
The real journey has begun.

Day 4 | Where the Danube Meets the Mountains
Today brings one of the great landscapes of Romania.
Travel to Orșova and the spectacular Danube Gorge, where forested mountains descend directly towards one of Europe's great rivers.
Take to the water for a boat journey through the dramatic Cazanele Dunării, experiencing the gorge from its most impressive perspective.
For centuries, the Danube has been more than a river. It has been a frontier, a trade route and a meeting place between peoples and cultures.
Today, it becomes one of the unforgettable landscapes of your journey.

Day 5 | The Czech Villages Above the Danube
High in the hills above the river lies something few international visitors expect to find in Romania.
In the nineteenth century, Czech settlers established isolated communities in the mountains of Banat. Generations later, their descendants have preserved elements of their language, food and cultural identity.
Travel to Eibenthal and spend time discovering this remarkable community.
This is not a staged folklore show. It is an encounter with one of the many cultures that together created modern Romania.
You came to Romania — and discovered a tiny piece of another Europe hidden inside it.

Day 6 | The Last Watermills of Banat
Continue through the mountain landscapes of Banat to Rudăria, where historic watermills still stand beside the river.
These were never built as tourist attractions. For generations, water powered the mills that turned local grain into the flour that became the village's bread.
Walk beside the river, hear the water and discover a piece of rural Europe that has largely disappeared elsewhere.
Then continue towards Hunedoara and the extraordinary landscapes of Țara Hațegului.

Day 7 | The Land of Dwarf Dinosaurs
Today Romania produces another surprise.
Millions of years ago, Țara Hațegului was part of an island inhabited by unusual prehistoric creatures — including the now-famous dwarf dinosaurs of Hațeg.
Discover their story before travelling deeper into a landscape filled with traces of Romans, medieval communities and centuries of rural life.
Then visit Densuș, home to one of Romania's most intriguing old stone churches.
Small, mysterious and unlike almost anything else you will encounter on the journey, it is exactly the sort of place travelers remember precisely because they never expected to find it.

Day 8 | From Hațeg to Alba Iulia
Travel towards Alba Iulia as mountains, forests and agricultural valleys succeed one another outside the window.
There is time to slow the pace today and discover another chapter of Romania's history before settling into your hotel.
Alba Iulia also provides our comfortable gateway to the mountains ahead.

Day 9 | Into the Apuseni Mountains
Today we enter another Romania.
The Apuseni Mountains are a world of forested valleys, scattered villages and communities whose character was shaped by the mountains around them.
The objective isn't to conquer the mountains. It is to experience them.
Travel through beautiful landscapes, enjoy an easy countryside walk and discover local traditions and food without the demanding hiking or rustic accommodation normally associated with remote mountain travel.
For a few hours, it can feel as though modern Europe has slipped surprisingly far away.
By evening, you are back in the comfort of your 4-star hotel.

Day 10 | Rimetea – Another Transylvania
Today we enter Transylvania.
But not Dracula's Transylvania.
Beneath the dramatic limestone wall of Piatra Secuiului lies Rimetea, one of the region's most distinctive villages.
Its traditional houses, Hungarian heritage and extraordinary mountain setting reveal a Transylvania whose fascination comes not from legends but from the people and cultures that have shared this landscape for centuries.
Walk through the village, enjoy its architecture and sit down to a regional meal before continuing to Cluj-Napoca.
Sometimes the places we remember most are those where we simply had time to look around.
Cluj-Napoca | 4-star hotel | Breakfast & dinner
Day 11 | Transylvania at Human Scale
Leave the conventional sightseeing circuit behind once more.
Today's Transylvania is found in small communities, old houses, workshops, local foods and landscapes that have been inhabited for centuries.
Meet people connected to the region and discover how Romanian, Hungarian and Saxon histories created a cultural mosaic far richer than the Transylvania of popular legend.
There are no crowds to follow today.
Just another piece of Romania to discover.
Cluj-Napoca | 4-star hotel | Breakfast & dinner
Day 12 | Cluj – The Romania of Today
After rivers, watermills, mountain villages and ancient churches, discover another side of the country in Cluj-Napoca.
One of Romania's most dynamic cities combines historic architecture and multicultural heritage with universities, restaurants, cafés, galleries and a distinctly contemporary energy.
Enjoy a relaxed discovery of the city followed by free time before gathering for a special farewell dinner.
Tonight, the journey comes full circle.
You arrived looking for a Romania beyond the postcards.
You found it.

Day 13 | Farewell Romania
Breakfast at the hotel followed by private transfer to Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport.

A Different Kind of Romania
This journey isn't about collecting famous landmarks.
It is about experiencing a country.
The sound of water turning an old village mill.
The Danube suddenly appearing between mountains.
Hearing Czech spoken in a village high above the river.
Discovering that dinosaurs once roamed an ancient Romanian island.
Entering a tiny stone church whose history seems impossible to untangle.
Driving towards villages scattered through the Apuseni Mountains.
Sitting down to food that belongs to the landscape around you.
Walking through a Transylvanian village beneath a wall of limestone.
And meeting people whose families and cultures have shaped these places for generations.
All without sacrificing comfort.
Throughout the journey, carefully selected 4-star hotels, private transportation, an English-speaking tour director, daily breakfast and dinner and a thoughtfully paced itinerary allow you to experience authentic Romania without turning your vacation into an expedition.
