Four cities. Four different Christmas markets. Thousands of lights, festive flavours, winter attractions and unforgettable evenings in Romania
ROMANIA’S MOST MAGICAL CHRISTMAS MARKETS - Bucharest • Brașov • Sibiu • Craiova
What if one Christmas market were not enough?
This 7-day journey has been created for travellers who want to experience four of Romania’s most attractive Christmas markets in one complete winter tour.
From the energy and lights of Bucharest, we travel into the Carpathians for the storybook setting of Brașov, continue to the elegant medieval squares of Sibiu, and finish with the spectacular festive world of Craiova.
Each market has its own character.
Each city creates a different winter atmosphere.
And each evening brings another opportunity to explore illuminated streets, decorated wooden chalets, local crafts, winter entertainment and — of course — the food.
Along the way, Romania gives us a few additional surprises: the Carpathian Mountains, Sinaia, Peleș Castle, Bran and the legend of Dracula, and the historic landscapes of Transylvania.
They make the journey richer.
But the stars of this tour are the Christmas markets.
DAY 1 – BUCHAREST
Christmas Market No. 1 – Christmas in the Romanian Capital
Welcome to Romania!
Arrival in Bucharest, meeting with our local representative and transfer to the hotel.
Our first evening introduces the group to the lights, flavours and festive energy of winter in the Romanian capital.
What will we experience?
Bucharest combines the atmosphere of a major European city with large seasonal events, illuminated boulevards and festive areas.
Depending on the markets operating during the travel dates, we will explore one of the capital’s principal Christmas-market areas.
Expect decorated wooden chalets, impressive Christmas trees and light displays, seasonal music and entertainment, handmade gifts, Romanian products and plenty of food and drink to discover.
What should we taste?
Part of the fun is walking from stall to stall and trying different winter flavours.
Depending on the vendors and annual programme, visitors can look for Romanian sausages and grilled meats, sarmale, mămăligă, pastries, cozonac, gingerbread, kürtőskalács, roasted nuts, sweets, hot chocolate and aromatic mulled wine.
There is time to walk, taste, photograph, shop and simply enjoy the atmosphere.
For groups wanting an additional experience, we can arrange a special welcome dinner after the market visit.
Overnight in Bucharest – 3★ or 4★ hotel.
DAY 2 – BUCHAREST • SINAIA • BRAȘOV
Christmas Market No. 2 – A Winter Evening in the Carpathians
After breakfast, we leave Bucharest and travel north towards Transylvania.
But getting there is part of the experience.
Our route takes us through the Carpathian Mountains, with the possibility of stopping in Sinaia, one of Romania’s best-known mountain resorts.
Depending on the group’s programme, we can include a visit to Peleș Castle or enjoy a shorter stop in Sinaia before continuing towards Brașov.
And then we arrive at what we came for.
Brașov Christmas Market
Brașov offers a completely different atmosphere from Bucharest.
The festive market is set in the heart of one of Romania’s most attractive historic cities, surrounded by old architecture and framed by the mountains.
As darkness falls, the historic centre fills with lights.
What will we experience?
We explore the festive centre around Council Square and the surrounding pedestrian streets.
Visitors can enjoy the decorated market stalls, seasonal displays, local products, handicrafts, gifts, food and warm drinks while surrounded by the architecture of old Brașov.
Before or during our market visit, our guide will introduce us to some of the landmarks surrounding the festive area, including Council Square, the Black Church and the historic streets of Brașov.
The sightseeing complements the evening — but tonight, the Christmas market is the main event.
What should we taste?
This is the perfect place to continue our Romanian winter food adventure.
Look for grilled sausages and meats, traditional dishes, local cheeses, pastries, sweets, gingerbread, kürtőskalács and warming winter drinks.
Free time to enjoy the market at your own pace.
Overnight in Brașov – 3★ or 4★ hotel.
DAY 3 – BRAȘOV • BRAN • BRAȘOV
Dracula Is Our Bonus – Christmas in Brașov Is Our Destination
Today gives us something different.
After breakfast, we travel to Bran Castle, internationally known through its association with the legend of Dracula.
The castle, its dramatic location and the surrounding Transylvanian scenery add another memorable Romanian experience to our journey.
After visiting the castle, there will be time to explore the market area around Bran, where visitors may find local cheeses, smoked meats, honey, jams, sweets, handicrafts, wooden products and souvenirs.
Optional lunch or local tasting can be arranged for the group.
We then return to Brașov.
Why two nights in Brașov?
Because a Christmas market should not be experienced with a stopwatch.
The second evening gives our guests time to return to their favourite stalls, discover foods they did not try the previous evening, shop for gifts, photograph the illuminated centre and enjoy Brașov after dark.
Groups wanting a special evening can add a traditional Transylvanian dinner, tasting experience or another private group activity.
Overnight in Brașov – 3★ or 4★ hotel.
DAY 4 – BRAȘOV • SIBIU
Christmas Market No. 3 – Christmas Magic in a Medieval Square
After breakfast, we travel through Transylvania towards Sibiu.
And here the Christmas-market experience changes once again.
Sibiu Christmas Market
Sibiu brings together two things that work beautifully in winter: an impressive Christmas market and one of Romania’s best-preserved historic centres.
The heart of the experience is Piața Mare – the Grand Square.
Historic façades surround the square, while lights, wooden chalets, winter attractions and the aromas of seasonal food transform the centre into an elegant festive setting.
What will we experience?
The market brings together more than just shopping.
Depending on the annual programme, visitors can enjoy winter attractions, entertainment, illuminated decorations and a large selection of exhibitors.
The 2026 edition includes more than 120 exhibitors, a panoramic wheel, a 600-square-metre ice rink, the Christmas Chalet, an Enchanted Elevator, workshops and entertainment.
Between market experiences, we can also see some of Sibiu’s famous landmarks just a few steps away: the Small Square, Bridge of Lies, Council Tower, Huet Square and the unusual rooftops known as the “Eyes of Sibiu.”
What should we taste?
This is another evening for exploring with your appetite.
Market stalls and the Christmas Chalet offer opportunities for hot dishes, local delicacies, sweets and mulled wine, while exhibitors also offer Romanian products that make excellent edible gifts.
There is plenty of free time to explore, taste, photograph and shop.
Overnight in Sibiu – 3★ or 4★ hotel.
DAY 5 – SIBIU • CRAIOVA
Christmas Market No. 4 – The Grand Finale
After breakfast, we leave Sibiu and travel towards Craiova.
We save one of the biggest visual experiences of the journey for last.
Craiova Christmas Market
Craiova is not simply a row of Christmas stalls in a single square.
In recent editions, the event has spread across several areas of the city centre, with different themes, huge numbers of lights, entertainment, attractions, food areas and elaborate installations.
The result is closer to a Christmas world than a conventional market.
What will we experience?
The 2026 Christmas Market is scheduled from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, with the announced theme “Land of the Elves.”
The exact attractions and entertainment programme can vary each year, but Craiova has become known for transforming its central areas into distinct festive worlds.
Previous editions have featured spectacular illuminated installations, themed squares, panoramic rides, carousels, entertainment, handmade products, food areas and major evening attractions.
This is a market to explore slowly.
Walk from one festive area to another.
Stop for photographs.
Try something from a food stall.
Find the biggest light installation.
Take in the atmosphere.
Then continue to the next square.
And the food?
Craiova is also one of the places where the food becomes part of the entertainment.
Recent editions have included both traditional Romanian dishes and international street food, alongside cozonac, gingerbread, doughnuts, waffles, churros, cheeses, grilled foods, sweets and mulled wine.
Tonight, dinner does not necessarily need to happen in a restaurant.
For many visitors, tasting the market is dinner.
Overnight in Craiova – 3★ or 4★ hotel.
DAY 6 – CRAIOVA • BUCHAREST
One More Taste of Craiova
After breakfast, we have additional time to enjoy Craiova.
This is deliberate.
Large Christmas markets are very different by day and by night, and Craiova deserves more than a quick evening stop.
Depending on opening times and the annual programme, guests can revisit favourite areas, shop for gifts, explore attractions or simply enjoy the decorations and city centre at a more relaxed pace.
Later, we return to Bucharest.
For our final evening in Romania, groups can choose between free time, another festive-market visit or an optional farewell dinner.
Special restaurant experiences, entertainment and other activities can also be arranged according to the interests and budget of the group.
Overnight in Bucharest – 3★ or 4★ hotel.
DAY 7 – BUCHAREST
One Last Winter Experience
Breakfast at the hotel.
Depending on departure time, guests may have additional free time in Bucharest for shopping, another walk through the decorated city centre or an optional activity.
For groups with later departures, Therme Bucharest, additional sightseeing or another customised experience can be arranged.
Transfer to the airport or agreed departure point.
End of the tour.
FOUR CHRISTMAS MARKETS – FOUR DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES
BUCHAREST
The energy of a European capital, impressive city lights, seasonal markets, entertainment, food and shopping.
BRAȘOV
A Christmas market surrounded by historic Transylvanian architecture and the Carpathian Mountains.
SIBIU
An elegant Christmas market in the heart of a magnificent medieval square, combining festive stalls, attractions, crafts and gastronomy.
CRAIOVA
The spectacular finale: large-scale decorations, themed festive areas, entertainment, attractions, food and an extraordinary world of lights.
You are not travelling hundreds of kilometres to see the same Christmas market four times.
Every stop offers a different experience.
COME HUNGRY
The Christmas markets are also a journey through flavours.
Throughout the tour, guests can discover foods such as:
Sarmale – traditional stuffed cabbage rolls
Mămăligă – Romanian polenta
Grilled sausages and meats
Local cheeses and smoked products
Cozonac – traditional Romanian sweet bread
Papanași – Romanian-style doughnuts
Kürtőskalács – chimney cake

Food and beverages purchased at the Christmas markets are normally not included in the tour price, allowing each guest to choose what and how much they would like to taste.
